This guide is about the Kedarkantha Trek — dates, price, day-by-day itinerary and booking are on the trek page.

Quick answer: The best Kedarkantha captions are short and specific: they name the place and the number. “12,500 ft by sunrise.” “Juda Ka Talab, frozen solid.” “Started at 2 AM. Stood on Kedarkantha by sunrise.” Below are 60 original lines in English and Hindi, grouped by campsite, plus the facts to check before you post.

This page is for anyone who has trekked Kedarkantha, or is about to, and wants words for the photos. We wrote every line here ourselves, so you are free to use them. Each one is built on a real detail of the route from our Kedarkantha trek page: the camps, the heights, the 2 AM summit start, the frozen lake and the peaks you see from the top. A caption with a true detail in it reads better than a borrowed mountain quote.

Short Kedarkantha captions (one-liners)

  • 12,500 ft by sunrise.
  • Kedarkantha: done. Toes: still thawing.
  • Three days on foot for one sunrise. Worth it.
  • Sankri to the summit and back, on my own two feet.
  • Snow above, snow below, snow in my socks.
  • 3,810 m closer to the sky.
  • The alarm said 2 AM. The mountain said sunrise.
  • Mobile signal: zero. Happiness: full.
  • Winter, but make it Uttarkashi.
  • Proof that I left the city for five days.

Captions by campsite

Kedarkantha is a 5-day trek of about 20 km that starts and ends at Sankri. Match the caption to where the photo was taken.

Sankri (1,950 m / 6,400 ft), Day 1

  • Seven hours of road, one tiny village, a very big mountain ahead.
  • Last stop with signal. See you on Day 5.
  • Gear check done. Nerves not done.
  • Sankri evenings: early dinner, earlier bedtime.
  • The road ends here. The trek starts here.

The forest and Juda Ka Talab (9,100 ft), Day 2

  • Walked through a pine forest that forgot it was green.
  • Juda Ka Talab, frozen solid. Camp is right next to it.
  • The only sound was the crunch of snow underfoot.
  • Pine, oak, snow, repeat.
  • A lake you can stand beside and hear nothing at all.
  • First camp at 9,100 ft, under the clearest sky I have seen.

Base camp (11,250 ft), Day 3

  • Left the trees behind. Found the whole range in front.
  • Meadow walk with Swargarohini in view.
  • Bandarpunch and Black Peak from the meadows. No zoom needed.
  • Early dinner, summit briefing, alarm set for 2 AM.
  • Meadows under snow. Home for one night.

Summit day (12,500 ft / 3,810 m), Day 4

  • Started at 2 AM. Stood on Kedarkantha by sunrise.
  • Headlamp on, head down, one step at a time.
  • Swargarohini, Black Peak, Bandarpunch and Kalanag, all lit up at once.
  • The summit is not the top of the mountain. It is the top of my year.
  • Climbed in the dark so I could see the light.
  • The hardest morning I have loved.
  • Coming down the snow slopes was the reward for climbing them.

The way down, Day 5

  • Sunlight on the frozen lake, then down to Sankri.
  • Completion certificate in hand, snow still in my boots.
  • Came down the mountain. Didn't come down from the high.
  • Back to signal. Unread messages: all of them. Regrets: none.
  • Same road home, different person in the cab.

Funny captions for a cold trek

  • My sleeping bag is rated -20°C. My patience is not.
  • Wore every layer I packed. At the same time.
  • Microspikes on, dignity optional.
  • Offloaded the backpack. Kept the ambition.
  • Hot tea from a thermos on the summit. Best café in Uttarakhand.
  • Asked for a room with a view. Got a tent with a range.
  • 200 km to Sankri, one roadside chai at a time.
  • Gaiters: the accessory nobody posts and everybody needs.
  • Walked 20 km to sit on a rock and stare. Recommended.
  • Tent for three. Snow for miles.
  • Easy-moderate on paper. Epic in the snow.
  • The night at camp hit -15°C. The tea was perfect.
  • SpO2 checked twice a day. Mood: off the charts.
  • Plot twist: the easy trek had a 2 AM alarm.

Two more checks. Kedarkantha and Kedarnath are different places, so don't tag one as the other. And the trek rises from the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park; the Wildlife Institute of India page on Govind National Park gives its history (part of the Upper Tons valley became a sanctuary in 1955, and Govind National Park was notified in 1991) if you want a fact for a long caption.

When can you post from the trek?

Not on the trail. Sankri is the last place with mobile signal, and only Jio works there consistently. After Sankri there is no signal until you walk back on Day 5. Write your captions in the notes app at camp and post them when you are back in Sankri.

Trekkaro tip: summit day starts at 2:00 AM in sub-zero cold. Keep your phone in an inside pocket on the climb and take it out at the top for sunrise. Carry the power bank from the packing list and keep it close to your body in the cold.

And post the view, not the trail damage: no names carved on rocks, no wrappers left behind at camp.

What the trek costs

Kedarkantha costs ₹9,000 per person + 5% GST = ₹9,450, and the trek page shows EMI from ₹463 a month. Free Trekking Gear on Kedarkantha (Decathlon trekking shoes, a -10°C jacket, poles, gaiters and microspikes) comes against a ₹3,000 refundable deposit and a ₹200 washing charge (+ GST). Transport is not included in the trek fee: we help the group book shared cabs, paid directly to the driver and split among trekkers; Dehradun–Sankri is ₹1,000 per person one way. Pickup is at Dehradun Railway Station at 6:30 AM on Day 1.

Purola has the last reliable ATM and cards are not accepted on the trail, so carry small notes. Bring original government photo ID with a photocopy, a medical fitness certificate signed by a doctor, and travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking and helicopter evacuation (mandatory, not included). Water at camp is boiled or treated with chlorine tablets. Ask your doctor about Diamox before the trek.

The trek page lists departures from 24 October 2026, with one on each day of December, January and February. Cancellation: 70% refund 30 days or more before departure, 50% at 15 to 29 days, no cash refund at 8 to 14 days, and nothing at 7 days or less. At any point up to 8 days before departure you can take a 100% TrekCash voucher (valid 1 year), a free reschedule (once per booking) or a transfer instead of the cash refund.
