Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek — Guide, Dates & Cost

 Region: Uttarakhand
 District: Chamoli
 Duration: 6 Days
 Difficulty Level: Easy–Moderate
 Highest Altitude: 3,658 m / 12,000 ft.
 Trekking Distance: 21 Km
 Temperature: Summer (April–June): Daytime: 8°C to 15°C, Night: 0°C to 7°C, Winter (Dec–Jan): Daytime: -2°C to 5°C, Night: -12°C to -5°C

For half an hour the path is stone steps, oak trunks and the low, dark roof of the rhododendron forest. Then, almost in a single line, the trees stop. The ground in front of you turns to open grass that rolls away in every direction, the sky widens, and the snow-clad peaks of the high Himalaya step out from behind the ridges. In our experience, few moments in the mountains of Uttarakhand change the feel of a trek as completely as that first step onto Ali Bugyal.

The Ali Bedni Bugyal trek is built around two of the highest alpine meadows in Uttarakhand. Ali Bugyal comes first, a wide green carpet of grassland dotted with wildflowers. Bedni Bugyal follows, rising gently to Bedni Bugyal Top at 3,658 m, where Mt Trishul (7,120 m), Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhambha and Neelkanth line the skyline. Just below the top lies Bedni Kund, also called Vaitarni Lake, a sacred lake that holds the reflection of Trishul on still days. Beneath the meadows runs the other half of the story: oak and rhododendron forest along the Neel Ganga River, wooden bridges, the Ranaka Dhar ridge above Wan village, and a forest camp ringed by tall deodars. In six days, Trekkaro takes you up through that forest, across both meadows and back down to the village where the walking began.

The Ali Bedni Bugyal trek lies in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, on the border of Garhwal and Kumaon. It is a 6-day, Easy to Moderate trek of 21 km that starts and ends at Wan (2,438 m), one of the largest villages in Chamoli, a short drive from the base at Lohajung (2,316 m). The two bugyals spread between roughly 3,354 m and 3,658 m, the highest camp is Abin Kharak (3,410 m), and the highest point is Bedni Bugyal Top (3,658 m / 12,000 ft). There are no technical sections; the climbing is steady, the days are short, and the reward is open meadow at real Himalayan height. The trek is known as one of the finest meadow walks in the Indian Himalayas, and for its wide view of Trishul. That reputation, in our experience, is well earned.

Two Meadows Beneath Trishul – What Makes the Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek Unmissable

Most meadow treks give you a single bugyal. This one gives you two, joined by a walk across open grassland above the tree line. Ali Bugyal arrives as a sudden reveal at the top of a steep forest climb, and once you are out on it the walking eases at once: gentle slopes, soft grass underfoot, colourful blooms and cool Himalayan breezes. A steady rise brings you to the ridge of Ali Bugyal, with the surrounding mountains spread out around you, and from there it is less than a kilometre to the camp at Abin Kharak. The tents sit out on the meadow itself, with grassland sweeping away on all sides and nothing between you and a starlit sky.

The next morning belongs to Bedni. You leave Abin Kharak and walk across the rolling green of Ali into Bedni Bugyal, which we consider among the finest alpine meadows in Uttarakhand. The climb is moderate and the views open with every step. Then you stand on Bedni Bugyal Top, at 3,658 m. Trishul rises ahead of you at 7,120 m, with Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhambha and Neelkanth along the horizon, and because the meadow is open and treeless, nothing stands between you and the snow. You walk down to Bedni Kund. The water is still. Trishul sits in it, upside down and perfectly clear. You find a dry patch of grass and sit. For a while, there is nothing to do but look.

What gives this lake its weight is not only the view. Bedni Kund is a sacred site and a key halting point of the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, a ritual procession held once every 12 years, and it is known for the rare Brahma Kamal flower. Standing at its edge, with the mountain reflected at your feet, you are on ground that holds a real place in local faith. From the lake the trail drops gradually back to the tree line, reaching Ghairoli Patal by late afternoon. We find that this is what sets the trek apart: the walking days are short enough that you have time to sit with the meadows, to watch sunrise and sunset light move across the snow peaks, and to take the place in rather than march across it.

The Forest Trail Itself

Below the meadows, the forest is a journey of its own. The trek begins at Wan and climbs straight into dense oak and rhododendron. The Neel Ganga River runs beside the trail, crossed on wooden bridges, and the first couple of kilometres rise steadily to the Ranaka Dhar ridge, with wide views back over Wan. By late afternoon the trail reaches Ghairoli Patal (3,205 m), a quiet clearing surrounded by tall deodars. The next morning begins on stone-paved steps through the trees, and it is this half hour of climbing in shade that makes the opening onto Ali Bugyal feel so sudden.

On the way out the forest shows a different face. From Ghairoli Patal the trail winds down through oak, pine and rhododendron, alive with birdsong, before dropping steeply to the Neel Ganga, the place to stop and cool your feet in the icy water. A gentle climb brings you back to Ranaka Dhar for a final look at the high peaks before the descent into Wan. Over four walking days the landscape moves from village to deep forest, from forest clearing to open meadow, and from meadow to a sacred lake beneath high snow peaks.

Who Is This Trek For?

The Ali Bedni Bugyal trek is graded Easy to Moderate, and where it sits on that scale depends mostly on snow. Without snow it is a simple walk for anyone of reasonable fitness; with snow on the meadows, the going is slower and needs more care. Walking days cover 4 to 6 km and usually take 3 to 5 hours, on forest paths, stone steps and open grass. The hardest day is the first one on foot, from Wan to Ghairoli Patal, which gains about 767 m over 6 km in 4 to 5 hours. The walk out, with its steep drop to the Neel Ganga, tests your knees. No previous Himalayan trek is needed, and we recommend this route as a first high-altitude trek for anyone who can walk 4 to 5 hours on hill trails. We recommend starting your preparation at least 4 to 6 weeks before departure. Minimum age: 8 years. There is no fixed upper age limit; it depends on the trekker’s fitness. Season: March to June, and October to November.

Key Highlights of the Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek

  • Two high meadows on one trek – Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal, among the highest bugyals in Uttarakhand, joined by a walk across open grassland
  • Bedni Bugyal Top at 3,658 m / 12,000 ft – the highest point, with views of Trishul (7,120 m), Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhambha and Neelkanth
  • Bedni Kund (Vaitarni Lake) – a sacred lake that reflects Mt Trishul on still days, known for the rare Brahma Kamal
  • Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra – Bedni Kund is a key halt on this ritual procession, held once every 12 years
  • The reveal of Ali Bugyal – the forest ends suddenly after a short climb on stone-paved steps
  • The Neel Ganga forest trail – oak and rhododendron forest, wooden bridges and the Ranaka Dhar ridge above Wan
  • Camps in forest and on meadow – Ghairoli Patal (3,205 m) among tall deodars, and Abin Kharak (3,410 m) out on the grass under a starlit sky

Best Time to Do the Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek

The Ali Bedni Bugyal trek has two seasons, March to June and October to November, and the meadows look quite different in each. Spring opens with snow still on the high ground and moves into green grass and flowers; autumn turns the bugyals gold and brings the clearest mountain views of the year.

March to Early April – Snow on the Bugyals

The season opens with snow still lying across the higher meadows. Ali and Bedni take on a white, quiet look, and the walk across the grassland becomes slower and needs more care where snow lies on the trail. For trekkers who want a first taste of Himalayan snow on a gentle route with short days, it is a rewarding time to go.

  • Trail conditions: Snow on the higher meadows, slower walking, cold nights.
  • Best for: A first snow trek on a gentle route, and quiet white meadows beneath Trishul.

April to June – Green Meadows and Spring Flowers

As spring moves on, the bugyals come alive. The weather is pleasant, the meadows turn a lush green, and wild high-altitude flowers and herbs spread across the slopes of Ali and Bedni. Early April can still hold some snow on the high ground, but through the rest of the season the grassland walking is at its easiest, and the mild days make this the most comfortable window on the trek.

  • Temperatures: Day: 8°C to 15°C | Night: 0°C to 7°C
  • Trail conditions: Some snow possible in early April; green meadows and blooming alpine flowers through the season.
  • Best for: First-time trekkers, families with children aged 8 and above, and meadows in flower.

October to November – Golden Grass and Clear Skies

Autumn is when the Ali Bedni Bugyal trek shows its sharpest side. The air turns crisp, the skies clear, and the bugyals change from green to gold. Mountain visibility is at its best of the year, and Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhambha and Neelkanth stand out hard-edged above Bedni Bugyal Top. Nights at camp are cold.

  • Trail conditions: Crisp, clear weather, golden meadows, cold nights.
  • Best for: The clearest views of Trishul, golden meadows and mountain photography.

Trekkaro Recommendation

For the gentlest conditions, green meadows and spring flowers, book an April to June batch; it is our first choice for first-time trekkers and families. For the clearest views of Trishul and the bugyals in gold, choose October or November, our top pick for photographers. If you want snow on the meadows with short, manageable days, March and early April are the window to book.

Day 1: Rishikesh to Lohajung

Route Details:

Drive: Rishikesh → Lohajung (260 km, 10–11 hrs) | Altitude: 2,316 m (7,600 ft) | Stay: Guesthouse / homestay (triple or quad sharing)

The Ali Bedni Bugyal trek starts with a full day on the road. Set off from Rishikesh early, around 6:30 AM, and you reach Lohajung by evening without pressure. Trekkaro arranges shared transport from Jumping Heights, Tapovan and Rishikesh at an additional cost.

The hill road runs via Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Gauchar, Karnaprayag, Tharali and Dewal, through forest, river valleys and remote Garhwal villages with terraced fields. Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Karnaprayag are three of the Panch Prayags, the holy confluences on the Alaknanda. Stop at Devprayag if you can; this is where the Alaknanda and the Bhagirathi join to form the Ganga.

Lohajung, at 2,316 m, is the base camp for Ali Bedni Bugyal, Roopkund and Brahmatal. You stay in a guesthouse or homestay, and dinner is served in the evening. The shops here are few and basic, so bring your trekking essentials with you. Withdraw cash at Dewal, the last reliable ATM, and make your calls at Lohajung, the last place with a stable mobile signal.

What to Expect:

  • Early start from Rishikesh, around 6:30 AM
  • 260 km hill drive past three of the Panch Prayags
  • Recommended halt at Devprayag, where the Ganga is formed
  • Dewal: last reliable ATM; Lohajung: last stable mobile network
  • Carry your essentials – Lohajung has only a few small shops
  • Overnight: Lohajung guesthouse / homestay (2,316 m / 7,600 ft)

Day 2: Lohajung to Wan, then Trek to Ghairoli Patal

Route Details:

Drive: Lohajung → Wan (15 km, ~1 hr) | Altitude: 2,438 m → 3,205 m (10,515 ft) | Distance: 6 km | Duration: 4–5 hrs | Terrain: steady climb to Ranka Dhar, then oak and rhododendron forest along the Neel Ganga | Stay: Tents at Ghairoli Patal

The morning begins with a 15 km drive from Lohajung to Wan, about an hour. Wan is the starting point of the trek and one of the largest villages in Chamoli. From here you walk 6 km to Ghairoli Patal, gaining about 767 m (2,515 ft) in 4 to 5 hours. It is a steady climb rather than a steep one, and the right way to walk it is slowly.

The first couple of kilometres climb steadily to Ranka Dhar, the ridge above Wan village, where the views open up for the first time. Pause here to catch your breath. The trail then continues into dense oak and rhododendron forest, full of diverse flora and fauna, and follows the lively Neel Ganga River, which you cross on wooden bridges.

The river is a good place for a short rest. In camp, drinking water is boiled or treated with chlorine tablets, and on the trail your trek leader or guide will tell you where to refill your bottle. Keep sipping through the day; steady hydration is the simplest help you can give your body at altitude.

By late afternoon you reach Ghairoli Patal at 3,205 m, a peaceful clearing in the forest surrounded by tall deodars. This is your first night in tents, and the trees keep the camp calm and quiet. Settle in, add a warm layer as the light fades and rest well. Tomorrow the forest opens onto the meadows.

What to Expect:

  • 1-hour drive from Lohajung to Wan, the trailhead
  • Steady climb to Ranka Dhar ridge above Wan village
  • Oak and rhododendron forest along the Neel Ganga, with wooden bridge crossings
  • 6 km and about 767 m (2,515 ft) of gain – an easy pace works best
  • Ask your trek leader where to refill water; camp water is boiled or treated
  • Overnight: Tents at Ghairoli Patal (3,205 m / 10,515 ft)

Day 3: Ghairoli Patal to Abin Kharak via Ali Bugyal

Route Details:

Altitude: 3,205 m → 3,450 m (Ali Bugyal ridge) → 3,410 m (11,185 ft) | Distance: 4 km | Duration: ~3 hrs | Terrain: steep stone-stepped forest climb, then open alpine meadow | Stay: Tents at Abin Kharak

Today is short, but it starts with work. For the first 30 minutes the trail climbs steeply out of Ghairoli Patal over stone-paved steps, through dense oak and rhododendron forest. Take it slowly. Short steps and a steady rhythm on the stones keep your breathing under control, and the steep part is over in about half an hour.

Then the forest clears and Ali Bugyal opens in front of you, a vast spread of alpine grassland running away in every direction. It is often called Asia’s largest alpine meadow, and the change from closed forest to open sky is sudden. The gradient eases at once. You walk across gentle slopes dotted with wildflowers and colourful blooms, with a cool Himalayan breeze and wide mountain views on every side.

The climb continues gently to the ridge of Ali Bugyal at 3,450 m (11,500 ft), the high point of the day. From the ridge the views of the surrounding mountains open wide. Stop here for a while. With only about 3 hours of walking today, there is no reason to rush, and time spent at this height helps your body adjust for tomorrow’s climb to Bedni Bugyal Top.

From the ridge it is less than a kilometre to Abin Kharak at 3,410 m, your campsite for the night. The camp sits among sweeping meadows, and because the day is short you arrive with plenty of daylight left. Use the afternoon to rest, drink water and enjoy the open space around you. On a clear night the sky over the meadows fills with stars.

What to Expect:

  • 30-minute steep climb on stone steps through oak and rhododendron forest
  • The forest opens suddenly onto Ali Bugyal, a vast alpine meadow
  • Gentle meadow walking with wildflowers in season and wide Himalayan views
  • Ridge of Ali Bugyal (3,450 m / 11,500 ft): the high point of the day
  • Short 4 km day of about 3 hours – plenty of time to rest at camp
  • Overnight: Tents at Abin Kharak (3,410 m / 11,185 ft)

Day 4: Abin Kharak to Ghairoli Patal via Bedni Bugyal Top

Route Details:

Altitude: 3,410 m → 3,658 m (12,000 ft) → 3,205 m (10,515 ft) | Distance: 5 km | Duration: ~4 hrs | Terrain: rolling meadow, moderate climb to Bedni Top, gradual descent into forest | Stay: Tents at Ghairoli Patal

This is the summit day of the trek, and a gentle one. From Abin Kharak the trail crosses the rolling green meadows of Ali and enters Bedni Bugyal, considered among the finest alpine meadows in Uttarakhand. The climb is moderate, about 248 m (815 ft) in all, and the grass underfoot makes for easy walking. Keep a steady pace and enjoy the open country.

Bedni Bugyal Top at 3,658 m (12,000 ft) is the highest point of the trek. On a clear day the big peaks stand in a line in front of you: Trishul (7,120 m), Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhambha and Neelkanth. Spend time here. This wide view across the meadows to the snow peaks is the one the trek is known for.

Close by is Bedni Kund, also called Vaitarni Lake, a sacred lake where Mt Trishul reflects on the water. It is a halting point of the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, a ritual procession held once every 12 years, and the area is known for the rare Brahma Kamal flower. Walk around it quietly; it is a place of worship as well as a viewpoint.

From Bedni Bugyal the trail descends gradually towards the tree line, a drop of about 453 m (1,485 ft). Use your poles and keep your steps short on the way down. After a couple of hours you re-enter dense oak and rhododendron forest and reach Ghairoli Patal at 3,205 m by late afternoon. It is the same deodar-ringed clearing you camped in two nights ago, and its shelter feels welcome after the open meadows.

What to Expect:

  • Rolling meadows of Ali and Bedni Bugyal, with a moderate climb of about 248 m (815 ft)
  • Bedni Bugyal Top (3,658 m / 12,000 ft): the highest point of the trek
  • Views of Trishul (7,120 m), Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhambha and Neelkanth
  • Bedni Kund (Vaitarni Lake), with Mt Trishul reflected on its surface
  • Gradual descent of about 453 m (1,485 ft) back into oak and rhododendron forest
  • Overnight: Tents at Ghairoli Patal (3,205 m / 10,515 ft)

Day 5: Ghairoli Patal to Wan, Drive to Lohajung

Route Details:

Altitude: 3,205 m → 2,438 m (8,000 ft) | Distance: 6 km | Duration: 4–5 hrs | Terrain: forest descent, steep drop to the Neel Ganga, gentle climb to Ranka Dhar, gradual descent to Wan | Drive: Wan → Lohajung (15 km, ~1 hr) | Stay: Guesthouse / hotel at Lohajung

The last trekking day retraces the route you climbed on Day 2. From Ghairoli Patal you descend through dense oak, pine and rhododendron forest, on a trail alive with birdsong and fresh mountain air. In all you lose about 767 m (2,515 ft) over 6 km, so keep your poles out and let your knees work gently.

After a few kilometres the path drops steeply towards the Neel Ganga. This is the steepest part of the day. Slow down, shorten your stride and place your feet carefully. At the bottom the river makes a good rest stop, and you can take your boots off and soak your feet in its icy water before the last stretch.

From the river the trail climbs gently to Ranka Dhar ridge, where you get a final look at the high Himalaya before the trek winds down. Then a gradual descent leads into Wan at 2,438 m, one of the largest villages in Chamoli. Your trek on foot ends here, and the warmth of the village is a fitting close to the walk.

Vehicles wait at Wan for the short drive of about an hour back to Lohajung. You stay in a guesthouse or hotel on triple or quad sharing. Freshen up, rest your legs and celebrate finishing the trek. Dinner is served in the evening.

What to Expect:

  • Forest descent through oak, pine and rhododendron, about 767 m (2,515 ft) of height loss
  • Steep drop to the Neel Ganga – a good place to rest and cool your feet
  • Gentle climb to Ranka Dhar ridge for last views of the high Himalaya
  • Wan village (2,438 m / 8,000 ft), one of the largest in Chamoli
  • 15 km, 1-hour drive from Wan back to Lohajung
  • Overnight: Lohajung guesthouse / hotel (2,316 m / 7,600 ft)

Day 6: Lohajung to Rishikesh

Route Details:

Drive: Lohajung → Rishikesh (260 km, 10–11 hrs) | Altitude: 2,316 m → 340 m (1,115 ft) | End: Rishikesh by evening

The trek closes with the long drive back to Rishikesh. The road retraces the way you came, via Dewal, Tharali, Karnaprayag, Gauchar, Rudraprayag, Srinagar and Devprayag, through valleys, along riverbanks and past mountain towns. Over the day you descend about 1,976 m (6,485 ft). Trekkaro arranges a shared taxi from Lohajung at an additional cost.

We recommend a short stop at Devprayag to watch the Bhagirathi and the Alaknanda meet and form the Ganga. After days in the meadows, it is a good last look at the rivers of these mountains.

You reach Rishikesh by evening, where your Ali Bedni Bugyal trek ends. Meals during the drive are not part of the trek, so carry snacks or plan a roadside stop. Leave a margin before any onward train, bus or flight; this is a full day on the road.

What to Expect:

  • 260 km drive back to Rishikesh, 10–11 hours
  • Route via Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag and Srinagar
  • Halt at Devprayag for the confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda
  • Shared taxi from Lohajung arranged by Trekkaro at an additional cost
  • Meals in transit are your own
  • Trek ends at Rishikesh (340 m / 1,115 ft)

From Rishikesh to Lohajung: about 260 km, 10–11 hrs by road. The cab will be arranged at an additional cost from Jumping Heights, Tapovan (Rishikesh) at 6:30 AM; it costs approximately ₹6,500 one way per 5–6 seat vehicle, shared with the other trekkers.

Return: On Day 6 the cab (at an additional cost, approximately ₹6,500 per vehicle, shared) leaves Lohajung at 6:30 AM and is expected to reach Jumping Heights, Tapovan by 7:00 PM. Book an overnight bus to Delhi for that night or the next day.

Things To Carry

Ali Bedni runs in spring (March–June) and autumn (October–November), and March–April can still have snow on the higher meadows, so pack for both dry trail and snow.

  • Trekking shoes – Provided free with Trekkaro’s Free Trekking Gear (one refundable deposit of ₹3,000 + ₹200 washing charge covers the whole kit)
  • Trekking poles – Provided free with Trekkaro’s Free Trekking Gear; they save your knees on the descents
  • Gaiters and microspikes – Provided free with Trekkaro’s Free Trekking Gear when there is snow on the trail
  • Backpack – 50–60 L with a rain cover
  • Day pack – 20–30 L; needed if you offload your main backpack (₹1,500 + 5% GST, max 9 kg)
  • Water bottles – 2 x 1 L; make one insulated if you trek in March–April
  • Headlamp – with spare batteries, for camp nights and early starts
  • Tents and sleeping bags – included in the trek fee, so you do not need to bring them

Temperatures range from about 10°C to -8°C, so carry 4 warm layers – thermals, 2 fleece or woollen layers and the padded jacket – and add a second thermal set if you trek in March–April.

  • -10°C padded jacket – Provided free with Trekkaro’s Free Trekking Gear
  • Thermal inners – top and bottom, for cold nights
  • Fleece or woollen layers – 2 (a fleece jacket and a light woollen sweater)

  • Sunscreen – SPF 50+
  • Lip balm – with SPF, to prevent chapped lips
  • Quick-dry towel – small and light

  • Personal medical kit – your regular and prescribed medicines plus basic first aid; consult your doctor before the trek

Lohajung is the last place with a stable mobile signal and there is no reliable ATM after Dewal, so sort out cash and calls before the trek.

  • Cash – Dewal is the last reliable ATM before Lohajung; withdraw enough there or in Rishikesh, including your share of the cab
  • Lunch box – reusable, for packed lunches on the trail
  • Snacks and ORS – dry fruits, energy bars and a few ORS sachets
  • Power bank – to keep your phone and headlamp charged in camp
  • Government photo ID – original plus a photocopy (passport, Aadhaar card, driving licence or voter ID); needed at forest check posts and for trek registration, so keep them in a waterproof pouch

The difficulty of the Ali Bedni Bugyal trek varies from easy to moderate depending on the snow level; otherwise, it is a simple walk.

The optimum level of fitness is usually necessary for any trek in order to enjoy it.

The temperature is average for the first two days as you don’t find snow. After that, you can see the snow, but the sunshine is bright and the weather is clear throughout the day, but you must wear layers at night. The temperature will range from 10 to -8 degrees Celsius.

The average daily walking distance is 4-5 kilometers, and trekkers finish in 5-6 hours. Walking will not be an issue for anyone due to the ease of the trek.

Treks are always led by a professional trek leader who has completed a basic and advanced mountaineering course and is trained in first aid, as well as one local guide, chef, assistant, porter, and other personnel.

Normally, we accept a maximum of 20 trekkers in one batch, including men and women. We require a minimum of 6 persons to execute a fixed departure, however, group size is unimportant for private treks.

Yes, the safety of the females is of the utmost importance to us. On treks, we constantly strive to provide a friendly environment. All of our guides and other support personnel are carefully selected for your travels. They are trustworthy and reliable, however, we would urge you to protect your personal items.

No, female trekkers share tents with other female trekkers, and the same is applicable to other trekkers.

We have four-person tents, however, three persons will share one tent.

Once you have booked your reservation, our team will give you the trek necessities list based on the trek.

We always serve Simple nutritious vegetarian food during the trek, with eggs available on request at the campsite.

Himalayan water is considered pure and mineral water, however, to be on the safe side, we use it to boil water/chlorine tablets in our camps. During the trek, ask the trek leader or guide where to fill water bottles once.

We arrange Bolero, Max, Tempo Traveller or equivalent to that.

No, however, our trek leaders are trained in "Wilderness First Aid" and are aware of high-attitude issues, and we carry a full first-aid kit and essential medications with us. Check your medical status before embarking on a trek, or get expert guidance if you believe you are unable to evaluate your own abilities.

Yes, it is always advisable to bring your own medication on any trek, regardless of whether the organizers provide it.

The minimum age requirement is 8 years old, while the maximum age depends on the trekker's fitness.

After selecting the trek you want to go on, the first step is to fill out the booking form. Payment is required to finalize the reservation. To make it easier for you to book, all details will be emailed to you.

However, regardless of the circumstances, the date of trek completion should always correspond with the planned schedule. Keep in mind that this is an adventure tour into the most remote location, where numerous unanticipated occurrences may need a change in schedule. In such instances, we or your trek leader would provide the best alternate schedule that is similar to your original itinerary.

Yes, if you want to travel independently, you are welcome to select any of the treks at your leisure and for any number of individuals. The cost of a private trek is determined by the number of people in the group, the location of the trek, the duration, and the type of trek.

Free rescheduling up to 7 days before · TrekCash voucher · refunds — tap to read

We know that cancelling a trek can be genuinely disappointing. Plans change, life intervenes, and sometimes the mountains have to wait. That is why Trekkaro has designed one of the most trekker-friendly cancellation policies in the industry — to reduce the financial impact on you and give you real options when things do not go as planned.

Important: Bookings made on trekkaro.com are cancelled online from My Bookings. Bookings made offline with our team must be cancelled in writing by e-mail by the person who originally booked the trek. Requests over the phone, via WhatsApp, or through third parties are not accepted.

How to Cancel Your Trek

Booked online on trekkaro.com:

  1. Log in and open My Bookings.
  2. Choose Cancel Booking on the trek you want to cancel.
  3. Pick a refund (as per the charges below) or Get TrekCash Voucher instead — the voucher is issued instantly and appears under My TrekCash Vouchers.

Booked offline with our team:

  1. Compose an e-mail from the registered e-mail ID used at the time of booking.
  2. Attach a copy of your tax invoice to the e-mail.
  3. Send both to info@trekkaro.com.
  4. Your cancellation is effective from the date Trekkaro receives and acknowledges your e-mail.

How to Reschedule Your Trek (Free)

  • Once per booking, to another batch of the same trek, free of charge. A request we decline doesn’t count.
  • Up to 7 days before departure — both your current and new batch must be at least 7 days away.
  • Subject to seat availability for every trekker on the booking.
  • Not available for bookings paid fully or partly with a TrekCash Voucher.
  • No fee or price difference; add-ons and the number of trekkers stay as booked.

Booked online: My Bookings → Reschedule free → pick a batch. Our team confirms by e-mail and your booking moves once approved. Booked offline: e-mail info@trekkaro.com.

Free rescheduling or a 100% voucher instead of a refund. At any time from the date of booking until 7 days before departure, you can reschedule to another batch free of charge (once per booking, subject to seat availability), transfer your booking to another trekker, or take a TrekCash Voucher worth 100% of the amount paid, valid for 1 year — whichever refund slab would otherwise apply. Online bookings take the voucher themselves from My Bookings → Cancel Booking (issued instantly); offline bookings request it by e-mail to info@trekkaro.com.

Cancellation of Voucher-Based Bookings

  • The standard cancellation policy applies to voucher-based bookings in the same way it applies to direct bookings.
  • Any remaining balance after the applicable cancellation charge has been deducted will be credited back to your Trekkaro account as a new voucher.
  • If your voucher has already expired at the time of cancellation, no refund, credit, or extension will be issued under any circumstance.
  • If a voucher is set to expire on a Sunday or public holiday, it must be redeemed before the expiry date.

Additional Terms

  • Free Rescheduling: Switching to a different batch of the same trek is free of charge once per booking, up to 7 days before departure, subject to seat availability. Not available for bookings paid with a TrekCash Voucher. See “How to Reschedule Your Trek” above.
  • Trek Transfers: Transferring your booking to another person is permitted, subject to Trekkaro's eligibility criteria. The new trekker must meet the fitness, age, and documentation requirements for that particular trek.
  • No Refund Post-Commencement: Once the trek has commenced from Day 1 of your confirmed itinerary, no refunds or TrekCash Vouchers will be issued for any reason, including early exit, illness, or dissatisfaction with services.
  • Policy Changes: Trekkaro reserves the right to amend or withdraw this cancellation policy at any time without prior notice. The version in effect at the time of your booking confirmation governs your booking.

Early Exit or Removal from Trek

A trekker may be required to leave the trek before completion for health concerns (AMS, hypertension, cardiac symptoms, or fitness that poses a safety risk), rule violations (alcohol or non-prescribed drugs on trail, smoking in prohibited zones, reckless behaviour, or misconduct), or by their own decision. In all cases of early exit or removal, no refund, partial refund, or TrekCash Voucher will be provided, and any additional transport or exit expenses are the trekker's responsibility. The trek leader's decision on health and safety grounds is final.

If Trekkaro Cancels Your Trek

In rare circumstances beyond our control — natural disasters (extreme snowfall, avalanche, floods, landslides, earthquakes) or unforeseen civil events (government curfews, lockdowns, political unrest) — Trekkaro will issue a TrekCash Voucher for the full trek fee paid, valid for 12 months on any trek listed on Trekkaro.com. If the new trek costs more, the difference is payable by the trekker. The voucher is sent to your registered e-mail within 10 working days and may be transferred to another person who meets Trekkaro's eligibility requirements.

Refund Processing

Refunds are processed within 10 working days of cancellation approval and credited to the original payment method only (credit card, debit card, net banking, UPI, or wallet). Your bank may take another 3–5 business days. Office hours: Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM IST.

The full policy is part of our Terms & Conditions (Section 09).

Oxygen, first aid, daily SpO₂ checks, trained leaders — tap to read

  • At Trekkaro, we redefine the trekking experience with our Free Trekking Gear (FTG) initiative — a game-changer in the adventure travel industry. We equip our trekkers with top-tier trekking gear at zero additional cost, including premium Decathlon products like:

    • Shoes (worth ₹6,999)

    • Insulated Jackets (-10° C) (worth ₹3,299)

    • Trekking Poles (worth ₹1,299)

This ensures every adventurer, whether first-time or experienced, can enjoy the mountains without the financial burden of buying expensive gear. It's trekking made accessible, safe, and seamless.

    1. Gear Built for the Mountains

Our high-performance tents and sleeping bags are engineered for extreme alpine conditions.

    • Sleeping Bags: Designed to endure temperatures as low as -5°C to -20°C

    • Tents: Provide additional insulation and wind protection for a warm, secure rest each night.

We are always prepared for unpredictable mountain weather — and encourage trekkers to share any safety concerns with our team for quick support.

    2. Health Monitoring: Daily Oxygen & Pulse Checks

Your well-being is our priority. For high-altitude treks, we conduct daily oxygen saturation and pulse monitoring (as needed) before and during the trek.

    This proactive step helps us:

    • Detect early signs of altitude sickness

    • Make informed decisions for your safety.

    • Ensure every trekker remains fit and comfortable throughout the journey.

    3. Emergency Support & Medical Backup

    • Oxygen Cylinders & Medical Kit:

Altitude affects everyone differently. Our guides are equipped with portable oxygen cylinders and essential first-aid medicines for immediate use in case of altitude-related symptoms.

Tip for trekkers: Stay physically prepared — activities like running, cycling, and swimming greatly improve endurance at high altitudes.

    • Stretchers at Every Campsite:

In case of emergencies or injuries, stretchers are available at all campsites, ensuring a safe and swift evacuation to base camp for further care.

    • Radio Communication Across Camps:

Cell networks can be unreliable in the mountains. To bridge the gap, our camps and guides stay connected via a dedicated radio communication system, ensuring quick response in cases of bad weather, missing items, or medical needs.

    4. Technical Support on Snowy Slopes

For treks involving snow-covered or technically challenging terrain, our trained technical team is deployed to assist. They ensure:

    • Proper route safety

    • Emergency handling

    • Support in difficult sections like icy slopes or narrow ridgelines

With Trekkaro, you’re always in safe and experienced hands — so you can focus on what truly matters: the adventure of a lifetime.
