Quick answer: Swargarohini is a snow massif in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, whose main peak, Swargarohini I, rises to 6,252 m (about 20,512 ft). It is a high-risk mountaineering peak, not a trek. Trekkaro winter treks show it, including Kedarkantha from its 3,810 m summit and Dodital Darwa Pass from Darwa Top at 4,150 m.

Trekkers see Swargarohini from the Kedarkantha trek summit at first light, to the north of the Dinnala camp on Aancha Top and of the Nag Tibba summit, and from Darwa Top above Dodital. This page covers what the massif is, how high its summits are, why its north face is so steep, and where trekkers see it.

Where is Swargarohini peak?

Swargarohini is a massif in the Saraswati, or Bandarpunch, range of the Garhwal Himalaya, in Uttarkashi district. Uttarakhand's Forest Department places it west of the Gangotri group of peaks. Bandarpunch, which gives the range its name, and Kala Nag, also called Black Peak, appear with it in the views from Kedarkantha, Nag Tibba, Benog Tibba and Darwa Top.

How high is Swargarohini, and how many summits does it have?

Swargarohini is a group of summits, not a single point. Swargarohini I, the main peak, rises to 6,252 m (about 20,512 ft). Swargarohini I itself has two tops, east and west. The Forest Department's mountaineering portal gives the east summit as 6,247 m (20,495 ft) and notes that the climbers who first reached the west summit hold that it is the higher of the two.

What makes the peak stand out is its relief. The same portal records that its north face drops 2,000 m in less than 2 km of horizontal distance.

Can you climb Swargarohini?

Not on a trek. Swargarohini is a mountaineering peak, and the Forest Department lists it in its High Risk Group, with the check-post at Naitwar. An expedition applies through the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, which forwards the request, and the Forest Department approves it and issues an e-permit. For trekkers, the peak is something to see from a summit, and the next section shows where.

Where can trekkers see Swargarohini?

These Trekkaro winter treks show Swargarohini. The first three give the fullest views.

Kedarkantha (5 days, summit 3,810 m)

On Day 3, on the trail to the base camp at 3,429 m, Swargarohini is in plain view without binoculars on a clear day, with Black Peak, Ranglana and Bandarpunch. On Day 4 the group leaves camp well before dawn so that it is on top when the sun reaches Swargarohini, Black Peak and Bandarpunch.

Aancha Top (6 days, summit 3,818 m)

From the Dinnala meadow camp at 3,277 m on Day 3, Swargarohini and Bandarpunch rise to the north. From the 3,818 m summit on Day 4, Bandarpunch and Kala Nag are the near peaks, and Swargarohini sits in the farther line with the Gangotri group, Srikanth and Jaonli.

Dodital Darwa Pass (6 days, Darwa Top 4,150 m)

Day 4 climbs from Dodital lake over Darwa Pass to Darwa Top at 4,150 m. The view there takes in Swargarohini, Bandarpunch, Kala Nag and Draupadi ka Danda, and on a clear day it runs towards the Gangotri range. Darwa Top is the highest point on these treks that shows Swargarohini.

Gulabikantha, Nag Tibba and Benog Tibba

Swargarohini is also in the summit view from Gulabikantha (3,658 m, Day 3), north of the Nag Tibba summit (3,022 m, Day 2), and in the sunrise view from Benog Tibba (2,216 m, Day 2), the lowest point that shows it. Nag Tibba and Benog Tibba are both 2-day treks. The Bandarpunch peak guide sets out the viewpoints of its neighbour day by day.
