This guide is about the Nag Tibba Trek — dates, price, day-by-day itinerary and booking are on the trek page.

Quick answer: The best time for the Nag Tibba trek is September to June. Pick January or February for snow (days 0°C to 9°C, camp nights -7°C to -2°C), September to November for the clearest summit views, March or April for rhododendrons, and May or June for mild nights of 5°C to 10°C.

Nag Tibba (3,022 m / 9,915 ft) is a 2-day trek from Pantwari in Tehri Garhwal, 88 km and about 4 hours by road from Dehradun. Weather, snow, crowds and views change month by month on Trekkaro's Nag Tibba trek, so the month you pick decides the trek you get.

What is Nag Tibba like in each month?

Temperatures are for December to February and April to June; for March and September to November the table describes the trail.

The Nag Devta camp, where the trek spends its one night, is at about 2,300 m (7,550 ft). The night figures are for that camp; the summit is about 720 m higher.

December, January or February: which winter month should you pick?

All three winter months share the same range: days of 0°C to 9°C and nights at camp of -7°C to -2°C. What changes is the snow and the crowd.

December

Snow arrives from late December, so a December batch may or may not have it. The trail is at its busiest from 20 to 31 December, the Christmas and New Year holiday weeks.

January

January and February are the most reliable months for snow. In January the snow is deepest on the climb from the Nag Devta camp to the summit, and from about December to February the upper section of the trail is under snow and can be slippery.

February

February is the month the team rates highest, because the snow is at its best for walking and the trail is quieter. For snow on the summit, Trekkaro recommends a January or February batch.

In every winter month summit day begins before sunrise: after a hot drink you leave camp with headlamps on. Groups reach the summit between 9 and 10 AM and stay 30 to 45 minutes, then descend about 1,620 m to Pantwari, an 11 km day of 6–8 hours on foot before the drive back to Dehradun. Ropes are not needed: after fresh snowfall the team clears the trail and helps trekkers across slippery sections.

Is autumn or spring better for Nag Tibba?

Pick September to November for the view. After the monsoon the air is clear, and these are the months with the clearest views of Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini and the Gangotri group from the summit. On a clear morning the view also takes in Kala Nag (Black Peak) and, on very clear days, the Kedarnath peaks.

Pick March or April for the forest. The rhododendrons bloom in March and April, and after a heavy winter the snow stays into March, so a March batch can give both. From April to June days are 15°C to 25°C and nights at camp 5°C to 10°C, the mildest of the season.

May and June have the mildest nights of the season, which suits families with children who already walk regularly and first-time campers. The minimum age is 9, for children who already walk regularly, and trekkers under 18 come with a parent or guardian. The Nag Tibba itinerary guide covers both days in detail.

Can you trek Nag Tibba in July or August?

Not with Trekkaro. July and August are the monsoon months, outside the September to June season. The season starts again in September, when the post-monsoon air gives the clearest views of the year.

How should your packing change with the season?

SeasonWhat to add
December to FebruaryMicrospikes and gaiters for the snow above the camp, one insulated water bottle, cap and gloves you keep on at the summit
MarchMicrospikes and gaiters if a heavy winter has left snow
April to JuneWarm layers for nights of 5°C to 10°C
September to NovemberWarm layers for the camp night and the early summit start

In any month, take only what you need on the trail in a 40–60 L backpack. Luggage you do not need stays free of charge in Trekkaro's store in Pantwari; valuables stay with you. Leave plastic water bottles at home and bring reusable ones. Free Trekking Gear includes Decathlon trekking shoes, a -10°C jacket, trekking poles, gaiters and microspikes.

Before you leave home, check the forecast for Tehri Garhwal district on the India Meteorological Department's Meteorological Centre Dehradun pages, which give district forecasts and warnings for Uttarakhand.

How do you book a Nag Tibba batch for the month you want?

Pick the month first, then a batch on the Nag Tibba trek page, where live batch dates are listed. The fee for this 2-day Easy trek from Dehradun to Dehradun is ₹3,825 per person plus 5% GST (₹4,016 with GST). EMI starts at ₹197 a month. Free Trekking Gear has no rental fee, only a ₹3,000 refundable deposit and a ₹200 washing charge.

Transport is not included. Trekkaro helps the group book shared cabs from Dehradun Railway Station to Pantwari and back, paid directly to the driver and split among trekkers. A 5–6 seat vehicle costs ₹6,500 one way, which is ₹1,083 per person when six share it. The Nag Tibba trek cost guide lists the add-ons and the full budget.
