Quick answer: In the December–March snow season, Dayara Bugyal days are 4°C to 11°C, nights -10°C to -2°C, with thick snow on the meadows. From April to June days are 13°C to 18°C and nights 7°C to 12°C. October and November are clear, with days of 12°C to 15°C and nights near 0°C. Batches are listed from October 2026 to February 2027.

Choosing a season, or packing for a batch you have already booked? Here is what each part of the season brings, day by day on our 4-day route from Raithal, and what to wear for it.

The page gives one range for the whole trek, not separate figures for Raithal (2,256 m), Gui (2,936 m, two nights) or Dayara Top (3,749 m).

What is the weather like in October and November?

Autumn is the clear-view season. The trek page describes crisp skies and crystal-clear mountain views, with days of 12°C to 15°C and nights around 0°C, getting colder towards the end of November. It is not the snow season, which starts in December. Book October or November for clear views, not for a snow walk.

For packing, the page asks for 3 to 4 warm layers in October and November, the same as April to June.

How cold is Dayara Bugyal from December to March?

This is the snow season, with days of 4°C to 11°C and nights of -10°C to -2°C. The meadows are buried under a thick blanket of snow, and the lakes on the trek freeze. The trail to Gui carries a coat of snow. On summit day the steep sections towards Chilapada and Dayara Top are on snow, and the final climb is steep and snowy.

For winter the trek page asks for 5 warm layers. Make one of your two 1 L bottles an insulated one so your water does not freeze. On summit day, put on microspikes if your trek leader asks you to.

December has the most departures (17, including a batch every day from 19 to 31 December), January 11 and February 8. March is part of the snow season, but no March batches are listed yet.

What is the weather like from April to June?

As the snow melts in spring, the meadows turn green and the forest fills with wildflowers and red rhododendrons. Days are 13°C to 18°C and nights 7°C to 12°C. Pack 3 to 4 warm layers and a rain jacket or poncho for unexpected showers.

No April, May or June batches are listed on the trek page yet, so this season cannot be booked today.

Day by day on the trek: heights, distances and conditions

  1. On Day 1 you drive from Dehradun to Raithal (2,256 m / 7,400 ft). The shared cab leaves Dehradun Railway Station at 7:30 AM for the 180 km, 8–9 hour drive. Bhatwari, about an hour before Raithal, is the last reliable ATM and the last stable mobile signal. The signal is weak to non-existent at Raithal and on the trek. Raithal has only a few small shops, so bring warm wear and essentials with you.
  2. Day 2 is 5 km and 3–4 hours from Raithal up to Gui (2,936 m / 9,630 ft), about 680 m of climbing. Go slowly in the first hour while your body adjusts to the height. In winter, the snow on the trail calls for shorter steps and your poles. You sleep at Gui in 3-person tents, with large mess tents for meals.
  3. Day 3 is summit day, 10 km and 8–9 hours from Gui to Dayara Top (3,749 m / 12,300 ft) and back, about 813 m up and down (worked out from the two altitudes). You start at sunrise after an early breakfast. A steep half-hour climb leads towards Chilapada. Light refreshments are served at the top. On the way down, snow and a cold breeze still demand care.
  4. On Day 4 you walk 5 km down to Raithal in 2–3 hours, then drive 180 km to Dehradun in 7–8 hours. Breakfast is the only meal included that day. The cab leaves Raithal at around 1:00 PM and reaches Dehradun Railway Station by about 9:00 PM.

What to wear, and what we provide

The trek page's clothing list is thermal innerwear, 2 fleece or woollen layers in winter, 2 quick-dry trek pants (no jeans) and a rain jacket. Add a headlamp, two 1 L bottles, a power bank, personal medicines and cash. Cards are not accepted on the trail.

Free Trekking Gear covers the pieces the cold needs most: Decathlon trekking shoes, a -10°C jacket, trekking poles, gaiters and microspikes. It needs a ₹3,000 refundable deposit and a ₹200 washing charge (+ GST). In camp, tents are shared by 3 trekkers (men and women in separate tents), and we provide -20°C sleeping bags.

What trekkers say on the trek page

Two reviews on our Dayara Bugyal page speak to the trail and the gear (they do not say which month):

“Dayara Bugyal trek is an amazing experience. The views are stunning and the trails are well-marked and easy to follow.” – Deepayan Datta

“The food provided was delicious and the free trekking gear was very helpful.” – Mayank Jaguri

How to check the weather before your batch

Seasonal ranges tell you what to pack; the week's forecast tells you what to expect. In the days before you leave, check the India Meteorological Department's Dehradun centre, which publishes district-wise forecasts, nowcasts and warnings; Dayara Bugyal is in Uttarkashi district.

Altitude, health and documents

Dayara Top at 3,749 m is above 3,000 m, so some risk of altitude sickness exists. Consult your doctor and carry your regular medicines. Each camp has a first-aid kit, medical support and oxygen cylinders, with a stretcher for emergency evacuation. Bring an original government photo ID with a photocopy (checked at forest check posts) and a medical certificate signed by a doctor.

What it costs

The trek fee is ₹7,800 per person + 5% GST, which comes to ₹8,190, Raithal to Raithal. The trek page shows EMI from ₹402 a month. The grade is Easy–Moderate, the minimum age is 8 (under 18 with a parent or guardian), and each batch has at most 20 trekkers with 1 trek leader or guide for every 8.

Transport is not included in the trek fee: we help the group book shared cabs, paid directly to the driver and split among trekkers. The Dehradun–Raithal cab costs about ₹6,500 per 5–6 seat vehicle one way. Backpack offloading is ₹1,000 + GST for the whole trek (up to 9 kg), and a single tent is ₹2,000 + GST. Travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation is mandatory and not included. Online booking closes at 5 PM (India time) the day before the batch starts.

Cancel 30 days or more before departure and you get a 70% refund; at 15 to 29 days, 50%; at 8 to 14 days, no cash refund. At any point up to 8 days before departure you can take a 100% TrekCash voucher (valid 1 year), a free reschedule (once per booking) or a transfer to another trekker instead. At 7 days or less, or a no-show, there is no refund, voucher, reschedule or transfer.
