Trekking from Sankri: what to expect
Sankri sits in Uttarkashi district inside Govind Pashu Vihar National Park, at the end of a 200 km, 8–10 hour drive from Dehradun via Mussoorie, Purola, Mori and Naitwar. Trekkaro groups meet at Dehradun Railway Station at 6:30 AM and share a cab (about ₹6,500 one way per 5–6 seat vehicle, split among trekkers) that reaches Sankri by evening; the first night is in a guesthouse in the village. Sankri has small shops and homestays but no ATM: Purola, about 3 hours before, has the last reliable one, so withdraw in Dehradun. Jio is the only network that works consistently in Sankri, and there is no signal on the trails beyond it. From Sankri the Kedarkantha trail climbs through pine forest to Juda Ka Talab; Har Ki Dun, Phulara Ridge and Bali Pass start with a short drive to Taluka and follow the Supin river. Winter brings snow to the village itself from late December to February.
