Quick answer: Lohajung is a small village at 2,316 m (7,600 ft) in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, and the start and end of the 6-day Brahmatal trek. Where is Lohajung, and how high is it?
Lohajung is in Chamoli district, in the Garhwal part of Uttarakhand. Our trek page calls it the gateway village for the Brahmatal trek and the last road town before the walking begins.
The village stands at 2,316 m. Bekaltal, the first camp, is 6 km away and about 480 m higher, and Brahmatal Top at 3,734 m is about 1,420 m above the village. Getting here by train, bus or cab, including the Kathgodam option, is covered in how to reach Brahmatal and Lohajung; this page is about the village itself.

What is Lohajung like as a village?
The trek page describes Lohajung as small, quiet and genuinely connected to the mountain life of the Garhwal Chamoli district. On clear mornings Trishul (7,120 m) shows above the forest ridgeline to the northeast, the same peak you see in full profile from Jhandi Top and Brahmatal Top later in the week.
Winter changes the place. November brings the first snow to the higher elevations above Bekaltal, and by January the hillsides above the village are white. Snow in the village itself stays shallow: the trek page gives "a few inches" at Lohajung, while the forest between Lohajung and Bekaltal holds two to four feet in January and turns knee-deep in places by 2,800 m.

What is the weather in Lohajung?
The Brahmatal trek runs from October to March, and the trek page gives these figures for Lohajung:
| Months | Lohajung temperature | Snow |
|---|---|---|
| November and March | 2°C to 14°C | First snow of the season falls above Bekaltal in November |
| December to February | -2°C to 8°C | A few inches in the village in winter |
Base camp at 3,106 m drops to -15°C to -5°C in the same December to February window, so a cold night in Lohajung is mild next to the camps above it, and the village is the place to sort your layers. Check the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department's Dehradun centre before you travel. The month-by-month figures are in our Brahmatal weather guide.
Is there an ATM, mobile network and charging in Lohajung?
Plan cash before you arrive. Dewal has the last reliable ATM before Lohajung, the trek page asks you to carry enough cash from Rishikesh, and cards are not accepted on the trail. Carry small notes.
Lohajung is the last place with a stable mobile signal. Beyond it the network is patchy to non-existent, so make your important calls in the village and tell your family about the limited connectivity. The trek page names no operator, so do not count on a particular SIM. There is no charging on the trail, which makes a power bank and spare camera batteries worth their weight; signal and device charging are back when you return to the village.
The trek page does not list shops or rental stores in Lohajung, so arrive with your personal kit. You do not need to rent heavy gear there: Free Trekking Gear (Decathlon trekking shoes, a -10°C jacket, trekking poles, gaiters and microspikes) is handed over in Lohajung on Day 1, against a ₹3,000 refundable deposit plus a ₹200 washing charge.

Where do you stay in Lohajung?
On our trek you sleep two nights in a Lohajung guesthouse, on Day 1 and Day 5, on a triple-sharing basis. The three nights in between are in four-person tents shared by three trekkers at Bekaltal and Brahmatal Base Camp, with -20°C sleeping bags. Meals run from Day 1 dinner to Day 5 dinner and are pure vegetarian.
You can leave luggage you do not need in Trekkaro's store in Lohajung free of charge and collect it when you return; valuables stay with you. The two guesthouse nights and meals are part of the ₹9,000 + 5% GST trek fee (₹9,450), and the trek page shows EMI from ₹463 a month.
What happens in Lohajung on the trek?
Day 1 evening is for rest, the gear check and the trek briefing. Your leader also records a health baseline for every trekker here: SpO2, pulse and blood pressure at 2,316 m, before you gain any height on foot.
On Day 2 you walk 6 km in 4–5 hours from Lohajung to Bekaltal, and in winter the forest is under snow from the first steps out of the village. You come back on Day 5, a descent of about 10 km in 7–8 hours from the base camp, dropping about 790 m. The trek concludes at Lohajung with completion certificates and a guesthouse night, and on Day 6 you leave the village for the drive back to Rishikesh.
