Tip 💡: Try to reach Dehradun early in the morning to start the drive by 6:30–7:00 AM for a comfortable arrival at Sankri before dark.
Begin your journey with a mesmerizing hill drive from Dehradun to Sankri, winding through scenic towns like Mussoorie, Damta, Naugaon, Purola, Mori, and Naitwar. This 200 km stretch is dotted with lush green valleys, dense forests, and glimpses of the majestic Himalayas.
Sankri is a quaint mountain village in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand and serves as the last road head into the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, the gateway to several Himalayan treks.
🍲 Meals: Dinner included
🛏️ Stay: Guest House / Homestay (on a triple or quad sharing basis)
Your trek begins with a gradual ascent from Sankri, leading you through the quaint Saud village. The initial stretch is a gentle climb, allowing you to ease into the rhythm of the trail. As you move forward, the forest grows denser, with a thick carpet of fallen maple and pine leaves crunching beneath your feet, creating a golden-brown path surrounded by towering pine and oak trees.
The air turns crisp as you gain altitude, and the tranquil forest atmosphere wraps around you in serene silence, occasionally broken by birdsong or rustling leaves. After about 4–5 hours of trekking through these enchanting woodlands, you’ll reach Juda Ka Talab, a picturesque alpine lake that’s often partially frozen in winter.
This stunning campsite, nestled amidst snow-dusted trees and mountain slopes, offers a peaceful retreat for the night. Watch the sunset paint the skies in warm hues, and wake up to a glittering sunrise that reflects beautifully off the icy waters of the lake.

Today’s trail is relatively short but incredibly scenic. The route begins once again through the dense pine and oak forests, winding along steep ridgelines and deeper wooded stretches. The cool mountain air, filtered sunlight, and sounds of nature create a truly immersive Himalayan experience.
After about 2–3 hours of trekking, the forest suddenly opens up to reveal a breathtaking sight — a vast alpine meadow set against the majestic backdrop of the snow-capped Dhauladhar ranges. The view is truly surreal, offering a panoramic canvas of the Himalayas that feels both humbling and exhilarating.
This beautiful meadow is your campsite for the night, located just below the Kedarkantha summit. With wide-open spaces, soft grassy patches, and stunning 360° mountain views, this is arguably the highlight of the entire trek.
Take time to explore the area, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and soak in the tranquil charm of your surroundings. The stargazing at night from this altitude is spectacular — a sky full of stars and complete silence.

Today is the most exciting and rewarding day of the entire trek — summit day.
You begin early in the morning, typically before sunrise, to reach the Kedarkantha summit and witness the first light spilling over the snow-clad Himalayan peaks. The climb is steep but thrilling, taking you through a narrowing trail that gradually emerges from the dense pine forests.
After about 2 hours of ascent, you’ll stand atop the Kedarkantha Summit (12,500 ft), surrounded by 360° panoramic views of the Garhwal and Himachal Himalayas. From here, you’ll witness a majestic sight — Swargarohini, Black Peak (Kalanag), Bandarpoonch, the Dhauladhar range, Har ki Dun Valley, Rupin and Supin Valleys, Chainsheel Pass, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Jaonti, Jorkanden, and Draupadi ka Danda — all forming a stunning backdrop of snow and sky.
After soaking in the scenery and taking photographs, you’ll begin the descent back to base camp, stopping briefly for lunch at a midway point. Post-lunch, you’ll descend further down to Juda Ka Talab, where you'll spend the night.

🍲 Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today marks the final day of your trek as you descend back to Sankri, retracing your steps along a well-defined, stone-paved trail. The 4 km route takes around 3–4 hours to complete and offers scenic views, especially from the ridge overlooking the stunning Har Ki Dun Valley. After enjoying breakfast at the campsite, begin your descent and aim to reach Sankri by 12:30–1:00 PM to allow enough time for the return journey. Shared taxis arranged by us will drop trekkers back to Dehradun Railway Station from Sankri.
