The Deoriatal-Chandrashila Trek is a gorgeous trek in Uttarakhand that takes you through Deoriatal Lake, Chopta, Tungnath and Chandrashila peak. You may embark upon this short trek to revitalize yourself with some of the elegant offerings of nature in the form of soothing climate, numerous species of birds, dense forests with maple, rhododendron and oak trees, and captivating views of all the major summits of Western and Eastern Uttarakhand. Standing on top of the Chandrashila summit is a blessing. This five-day plan is unmatched in nature’s beauty, exhilarating challenges, time-efficiency, and convenience.
The Deoriatal Lake would mesmerize you with its charm and here you’d get to see animals and birds drinking slurping its shimmering water. While the trail to Chopta is all about luxuriant meadows and mountainous dwellings amid the Himalayan ranges, the further trail takes you to the Tungnath peak which sits at a height of about 12,073 feet. Tungnath also features the highest Lord Shiva shrine in the world. Deoriatal-Chandrashila trek is recommended for the post-monsoon season where the snow-clad mountains would let you admire and experience the bliss of eternity.
For the level of difficulty, the trek is considered as a quite easy, although some suddenly climb and rugged terrain may test your trekking skills from time to time. The trek to the summit of Chandrashila at about 13000 ft. and marks the last leg of your uphill journey, whereupon it would be a return to Chopta, the base camp. This five-day trail would involve trekking almost 30 km and with salubrious weather in this region, one can always expect a great time here.
Best Time to Visit: Deoriatal-Chandrashila Trek is best for all the year to visit. Best time to visit Chandrashila is in summers (April-May) and winters (October-December). Best time to trek on Snow to Chandrashila Peak is from January to March.
Day 1: Reach Sari (6,601 ft.), 210 Km drive from Haridwar
Reach Sari, the base camp of the Deoriatal-Chandrashila trek. Transport will be arranged at an additional cost from Dehradun Railway station at 06:30 AM. Cost of the cab – Rs. 5,500/- per vehicle. During the drive, you will be surpassing the Yoga Capital of the World and sacred town of Rishikesh and also pass Devprayag where the confluence of rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi to form river Ganga. The river will keep you company throughout, reaching you at Sari by 06:00 in the evening where you will have an overnight stay at a Guest House/Camp/Home Stay. Roam the village, learn some words of the local language, this is appreciated and often results in getting more out of the experience. Ask for permission before taking pictures from the respect of local people. Enjoy the areas you go to, but if possible, try and leave in a better state than you found them in.
Day 2: Sari (6,601 ft.) to Deoriatal (7,841 ft. appx)
The first day is easy and the shortest day of the trek with mixed ascends and descends which involves 3 km hike; this is about to take 2-3 hours to reach Deoriatal. Pass through the dense thickets thriving with abundant bird species and continue climbing upwards. As soon as the lake comes into your sight, you could see some beautiful reflection of the entire surroundings in the clear water of this lake. A splendid vista of Chaukhamba massifs is unveiled in the background of the lake. Deoriatal Lake is also referred to as ‘two worlds at one place’, the first one being the real world and the other one being the reflection of the beautiful surroundings on the lake. Settle down right here in the comfort of your camps and get a very good night time’s sleep.
Day 3: Deoriatal (7,841 ft. appx) to Chopta (8,790 ft.) via Rohini Bugyal
This is the longest day of the trek has rolling terrain beginning with initial gradual ascends and then rapid descend which involves 14 km trek; it takes about 7-8 hours to reach Chopta village. Today’s trail will familiarize you more with the Mount Kedar and Chaukhamba massif Summit, rising closely as you process. It will be through dense forests of oldest oak, maple and rhododendron trees of the Kedarnath Sanctuary and trail moves to Chopta through the meadow of Rohini Bugyal may be quite an experience amid the enchanting weather. At the same time, the surrounding beautiful mountains are snow-clad that will provide a pleasing background to this captivating adventure. You may find yourself lucky enough if you manage to spot a local stunning bird named Monal. After a long day, overnight stay here that would rejuvenate you for the next days’ trek.
Day 4: Chopta (8,790 ft.) to Chandrashila Peak (13,000 ft.) via Tungnath (12,073 ft.) and back to Chopta
The final day of trekking would mark the last leg of this eventful trek. Get up early morning preferably before sunrise, so that you can treat yourself to a sunrise view from Tungnath and the Chandrashila peak. Beginning from Chopta, you would be reaching a sacred place named Tungnath which has a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the Panch Kedar. It also features the highest Lord Shiva shrine in the world. Once you reach Tungnath Temple, take some time to admire the beauty of architecture and hard work put in by those Artisans who built it a millennium ago when there had been no modern tools and facilities available in the remotest part of the world. To get the 360° view of snow-clad peaks of Chaukhamba, Bandarpoonch, and Kedar, then go ahead and climb to Chandrashilla which forms the backdrop of Tungnath Temple on the eastern side. It takes an hour to reach the peak from here and the distance is around 1 Km. The climb is not so steep however the altitude makes is little difficult to make quick advances to the summit. The entire trek is mesmerizingly beautiful and the views are simply breathtaking. This pretty easy trek would allow you to appreciate the natural beauty of the Himalayas while having a great time in the homestead of nature. This fateful day ends as you return to your base camp at Chopta for night stay.
Day 5: Drive to Haridwar from Chopta
Depart from Chopta to Haridwar Railway Station early in the morning. Expect to reach Haridwar by late evening. Transport will be arranged at an additional cost from Chopta at 06:30 AM. Cost of the cab – Rs. 5,500/- per vehicle.
How To Reach
Jolly Grant airport is located 25 kilometers from the city, serving to Dehradun. Daily flight from Delhi to Dehradun. From there, Haridwar is 38 Km far away and you have to come to Haridwar railway station via Ola/Uber Cab/Private Taxi.
Take the train from Delhi to Dehradun overnight

Regular bus service is available from Delhi (ISBT Kashmere Gate) to Haridwar. We suggest that you take only government buses from the ISBT Kashmere Gate. Private buses run from outside ISBT Kashmere Gate and they are not trustable.
Usually, the buses left you in the Haridwar Bus Stand. From there, Haridwar railway station is at a walking distance of 100 meters.
There is no direct bus to Sari run by the Uttrakhand Government, so you have to share a cab with Trekkaro co-trekkers.

Terms & Conditions
1- Accommodation: Full load camping arrangements on the mountain with a large mess tent, tables & stools. Stay from Day 1 to Day 4 (Sari to Chopta). In Sari and Chopta, Stay will be in Guest House/Camp/Home Stay on sharing basis. You will camp on the trek (2-3 per tent).
2- Meals: All meals during the trek starting with dinner on Day 1 till Breakfast on Day 5. (Veg/Non-Veg food + Egg)
Tea/Coffee/Soups/Snacks will be served throughout.
3- Camping charges: All trekking permits and forest camping charges are included (if any).
4- Leaders & Guides: Trek leaders assisted by certified and experienced local guides.
5- Free Trekking Gears: Shoes, Jacket(-10°C), Pole, Headlamp and Water Bottle.
6- Trekking Equipment: High-quality tents, sleeping bags, ice axes, roped, microspikes, gaiters etc. as required.
7- Safety Equipment: First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers etc. will be available at all the campsites to deal with emergencies.
1- Transport to and from the base camp: We arrange shared taxis for trekkers from Haridwar to Sari and drop you back from Chopta. This will cost approx. Rs. 5,500/- one way per 5-6 seat vehicles. You will have to share this value with the other trekkers.
2- Food during transit to and from the base camp.
3- Backpack offloading charges: Rs. 1050/- for the full trek + 5% GST. The backpack cannot weigh more than 9 kg. Suitcases/trolleys/duffel bags will not be allowed. Please note that charges will vary for the last minute offloading in case you decide to offload your bag after reaching Sari.
4- Anything apart from inclusions.

a) Change of trek batch date is dependent on the availability of seats in the batch.
b) In case of transferring a trek to your dear one, he/she should satisfy all the mandatory requirements lay down by Trekkaro.
c) Trekkaro holds the right to change/cancel the policies, without prior notice.
The applicable refund amount will be processed within the 10 working days.
If we have to cancel/suspend your trek before the date of departure or at the last moment due to a natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rains, earthquake, landslides, strike, curfew, etc.), then you will get the TrekCash Voucher of the total fee you have paid to us and you can redeemed it within a year on any trek but where this is of a higher price, you will be expected to pay the difference. The TrekCash voucher will be generated within 3 working days and sent to your email address by us.
Note: In instance of exchanging a TrekCash Voucher to your dear one, he/she ought to fulfill all the obligatory necessities set around Trekkaro.

We do treks which have a different environment than our daily life. We live in an environment where we less care about a healthy lifestyle. When it’s come to do treks or survive in the not so pure environment for more than a day our body should accept the changes. What oxygen saturation is the fraction of [oxygen]-saturated hemoglobin relative to total hemoglobin in the blood. So we insure about the specific balance of oxygen in your blood.
Our team ensures the health condition by oxygen saturation and pulse reading before trekking so everyone should aware about the health.
2. Oxygen cylinders and medical kit
When it comes to high altitude trek the body doesn't get enough oxygen. It’s not always that you cannot survive in high altitude treks but for a safer side if your body not adjusted with the environment we always ready with the oxygen cylinders. Our team member carrying the portable oxygen cylinder on the trek.
To prevent high altitude conditions -do more exercise and cycling. The more you practice it’ll easier for you.
Our team also carries all the basic medicines including high altitude sickness specific medicines - Diamox, Dexamethasone and Nifedipine.
3. Stretchers on every campsite
Although we are physically and mentally ready for the environment there are chances of accidents or uncertain things. In those situations, we have stretchers every campsite so in an emergency, the porter will safely drop you at base camp where we can do further treatment.
4. High Quality Trek Gears and Equipments
Trekkaro is the only trekking company in the world which is providing Free Trekking Gears(FTG) at no charge/rent only for use during the treks. Expensive FTG includes Decathlon Quechua Trek 100 Shoes, Quechua SH 100/300 Jackets, Hiking Pole/Stick, Gaiters, Crampons and Headlamp. Our camps our bit far from each other. But they connect through radio though network is the issue in hills. Although you miss anything or the weather is not good or we need medical help from the base we can communicate through radios.

All the treks are come up with an adventure. But safety is important in all trails and treks. Wherever we find the risky slopes or area we ensure the turn with the technical team. As we already mentioned earlier we have well-trained team having knowledge of handling hustle in emergency and even know how to take care of the trekkers.
