Kuari Pass Trek (Curzon Trail)
The Kuari Pass Trek, also known as the Curzon Trail, is one of the most popular treks in Uttarakhand. Nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas, Kuari Pass sits at an altitude of 3,900 m (12,795 ft) and offers panoramic views of some of India’s most majestic peaks, including Nanda Devi, Kamet, Dronagiri, Trishul, Bertholi, Hathi Ghodi Parvat, Mana, and Neelkanth.
This trek is a perfect blend of snow-covered trails, dense forests, scenic meadows, and Himalayan villages, making it a favorite among both beginners and experienced trekkers.
During the journey, trekkers pass through lush oak, rhododendron, and deodar forests, vast alpine meadows, and charming hamlets that showcase the traditional lifestyle of the Garhwali people. The highlight, of course, is reaching Kuari Pass, where you are greeted with breathtaking 180° views of the snow-clad Himalayan ranges.
Best Time to Visit:
The ideal time to embark on the Kuari Pass Trek is during winter (December to March). During this season, the trail is completely draped in snow, providing stunning views of snow-covered Himalayan ranges.
December to February: Peak winter with snow-covered forests and meadows, perfect for those who want a classic Himalayan snow trek.
March: The snow starts melting, giving way to blooming rhododendrons, while still offering snow at higher altitudes.
π Highlights of the Day:
Embark on an adventurous start to the Kuari Pass Trek from Rishikesh, a spiritual town nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. The journey begins from the Rishikesh Railway Station, as we set off along the scenic Badrinath Road. Throughout the drive, witness mesmerizing views of river valleys, lush mountains, and distant snow peaks.
The 9-hour, 215 km drive takes you through the famous Panchprayag (Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag, and Vishnuprayag) — sacred confluences where tributaries meet to form the mighty Ganga. The river flowing beside you grows more dramatic as you ascend, creating a picture-perfect backdrop.
Although long, the journey is filled with charm — from small mountain villages to vibrant roadside dhabas serving local delicacies. By evening, you will reach Pipalkoti, a peaceful town known for its hot springs and apple orchards. Here, trekkers settle into a guesthouse or homestay on a sharing basis.
ποΈ Local Tip: Pipalkoti has a few small shops for basic trekking essentials, but it’s best to carry everything you need beforehand instead of relying on local availability.
π² Meals: Dinner included
ποΈ Stay: Guest House / Homestay (on a triple or quad sharing basis)
π Highlights of the Day:
The trek begins at Dhak village, ascending gradually towards Tugasi village. The initial path is a dirt trail with some sharp turns, which eventually levels into gently sloping terrain. The ground can be uneven at times, but it is generally manageable.
After 20–25 minutes of trekking, you’ll reach Kharchi village, where you can refill water bottles and take a short break. From here, the trail continues along a rough path, with the valley opening up on your right.
The ascent becomes steep with switchbacks, leaving farmland on your left and gradually climbing through oak and deodar forests. As you gain height, the majestic Dronagiri Peak comes into full view, creating a breathtaking panorama.
The day ends at Gulling, where tents are pitched in open meadows surrounded by forests. Enjoy stunning views of Dronagiri and the surrounding mountains as the evening sets in.
π Stay: Tent (3 trekkers per tent)
π² Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks, Dinner
π Highlights of the Day:
Wake up early to begin a gentle ascent from Gulling, following smooth slopes that make for a comfortable and scenic walk. The trail winds through oak and rhododendron forests, gradually opening up to lush green meadows that provide breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks.
Along the way, you’ll cross a small stream and pass through expansive mixed forests, rich with conifers, oaks, and rhododendrons. In winter, the forest is transformed into a magical snowy wonderland, where every tree and trail is blanketed in thick snow, creating a serene and unforgettable trekking experience.
Arrive at Khullara (3,350 m / 11,000 ft.), your campsite for the night, set amidst open meadows and coniferous forests with panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges.
π Stay: Tent (3 per tent)
π² Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
π Highlights of the Day:
Summit day is the most exhilarating and challenging phase of the Kuari Pass Trek. Start early and ensure you are fully equipped for snowy conditions, icy streams, and high winds. There are no water sources along the route, so carry sufficient water to last the day.
The first section of the trek takes you to Khullara Top (3.5 km), crossing a broken bridge and a stream—which is frozen during winter—before ascending along a ridge to the high pass. The snow-covered trail adds to the difficulty, and trekkers should pace themselves with breaks every 15 minutes to avoid fatigue. This section involves moderate to strenuous exertion, testing both stamina and endurance.
Reaching the Kuari Pass Summit (4,070 m / 13,350 ft) rewards you with a panoramic 180° view of the Garhwal Himalayas. Marvel at the towering peaks, including Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, Kamet, Nanda Devi, and 10 more surrounding summits—14 in total—creating a breathtaking Himalayan panorama.
After soaking in the spectacular views, descend to Khullara Camp for an overnight stay amidst serene alpine meadows and snow-capped forests.
π Stay: Tent (3 per tent)
π² Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
π Highlights of the Day:
Begin your descent from Khullara campsite along a steadily sloping trail, passing through oak, rhododendron, and coniferous forests. The trek spans approximately 11 km and typically takes 6–7 hours, offering scenic views of meadows, distant snow-capped peaks, and Himalayan valleys.
After reaching Dhak Village, board your shared taxi or vehicle for the short drive to Pipalkoti (5 km). On arrival, settle into your guesthouse or homestay, marking the end of your Kuari Pass adventure.
π² Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
ποΈ Stay: Guest House / Homestay (on a triple or quad sharing basis)

At Trekkaro, we redefine the trekking experience with our Free Trekking Gear (FTG) initiative — a game-changer in the adventure travel industry. We equip our trekkers with top-tier trekking gear at zero additional cost, including premium Decathlon products like:
• Shoes (worth Rs. 6,999)
• Insulated Jackets (-10° C) (worth Rs. 3,299)
• Trekking Poles (worth Rs. 1,299)
This ensures every adventurer, whether first-time or experienced, can enjoy the mountains without the financial burden of buying expensive gear. It's trekking made accessible, safe, and seamless.
1. Gear Built for the Mountains
Our high-performance tents and sleeping bags are engineered for extreme alpine conditions.
• Sleeping Bags: Designed to endure temperatures as low as -5°C to -20°C
• Tents: Provide additional insulation and wind protection for a warm, secure rest each night
We are always prepared for unpredictable mountain weather — and encourage trekkers to share any safety concerns with our team for quick support.
2. Health Monitoring: Daily Oxygen & Pulse Checks
Your well-being is our priority. For high-altitude treks, we conduct daily oxygen saturation and pulse monitoring (as needed) before and during the trek.
This proactive step helps us:
• Detect early signs of altitude sickness
• Make informed decisions for your safety
• Ensure every trekker remains fit and comfortable throughout the journey
3. Emergency Support & Medical Backup
Altitude affects everyone differently. Our guides are equipped with portable oxygen cylinders and essential first-aid medicines for immediate use in case of altitude-related symptoms.
Tip for trekkers: Stay physically prepared — activities like running, cycling, and swimming greatly improve endurance at high altitudes.
In case of emergencies or injuries, stretchers are available at all campsites, ensuring a safe and swift evacuation to base camp for further care.
Cell networks can be unreliable in the mountains. To bridge the gap, our camps and guides stay connected via a dedicated radio communication system, ensuring quick response in cases of bad weather, missing items, or medical needs.
4. Technical Support on Snowy Slopes
For treks involving snow-covered or technically challenging terrain, our trained technical team is deployed to assist. They ensure:
• Proper route safety
• Emergency handling
• Support in difficult sections like icy slopes or narrow ridgelines
With Trekkaro, you’re always in safe and experienced hands — so you can focus on what truly matters: the adventure of a lifetime.

Where others may compromise, we never do. Beyond safety, our second-most important promise is attention to the little things. Whether it’s perfectly timed meals, well-planned acclimatization, or last-minute gear support — we sweat the small stuff so you don’t have to.
ur guides are more than just leaders — they’re motivators, chefs, first responders, and sometimes magicians. With deep knowledge of the terrain and genuine care for your experience, they ensure that every day on the trail is both safe and memorable.
Crafting the perfect trek isn’t easy — but we’ve mastered the art. Each Trekkaro itinerary is refined to strike the ideal balance between activity, rest, flexibility, and discovery. We handpick our stay locations for comfort and character, ensuring a unique experience each night.
