Har-Ki-Dun is one of the most attractive among Uttarakhand’s trekking destinations in the Western Himalayas. The valley of Har-Ki-Dun is located at the base of Fateh Parvat, at an elevation of 11,768 feet. A joy for trekkers, both in summer and winter, this valley is accessible through “Govind National Park” known for its rich variety of flora and fauna. The trek is age-old and steeped in legends. The mountains of Garhwal come with dramatic formations and diverse geographic regions. Streams of crystal-clear rivers formed by the melting of glaciers, lush green meadows, hamlets, pine forests, and rugged terrain form the varied topography of this region. But it is perhaps the mythological aspect of the Har-Ki-Dun trek that makes this onerous journey more special. Owing to its isolation, this area is a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers. It would be a heavenly experience to trek along the “Valley of Gods”, and follow the trail once beaten by Pandavas on their way to the heavens via Swargarohini, the mountain that dominates the Har-Ki-Dun valley. So how closer you come to the heavens is quite impossible to say, but the panorama of the gorgeous settings amid the snow-clad peaks would be no less than a divine experience. There is a chance to see the various species of birds and mammals growing in this region. You can also see a number of languors near Puani Garaat. Har-Ki-Dun trek is heaven for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and also shutterbugs.

Best Time to Visit: Har-Ki-Dun Trek is best for all the year to visit. The best time to visit Har-Ki-Dun is in the summers (April-June) and winters (October-December).

Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Reach at Sankri (7,953 ft.); 200 Km drive from Dehradun

Drive to Sankri from Dehradun is an enchanting hill drive of 8-9 hours stretching over a 200 Km ride via Mussoorie, Damta, Naugaon, Purola, Mori, and Naitwar. Sankri is our base camp. It is a small but pretty and quiet village in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand and the last road head to Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. You will go across beautiful valleys and forest cover throughout the journey. Stay will be in the Guest House/Camp/Home Stay on a sharing basis. The trail will commence the next morning at 07:00 AM with a healthy breakfast and a brief session of the Har-Ki-Dun trek by the Trekkaro team.

Transport will be arranged at an additional cost from Dehradun Railway station to Sankri at 06:30 AM. Cost of the cab – Rs. 6,500/- per vehicle.

Day 2: Drive from Sankri to Taluka (7,953 ft.). Trek from Taluka to Puani Garaat (8,280 ft.); 10 Km, 6-7 hours

The trek begins from Taluka followed by a 10 Km trek to Puani Garaat which takes about 6 hours to reach there. After an initial trek to a valley along River Supin, you follow a path that would be interspersed with forests and bridges. No music can ever come close to what is at play here. Another hour of the trek and you reach a bridge on a tributary of the Supin river. You’ll find a camping ground as you cross this bridge. After some more climbing, walking, and crossing a few more bridges, you’d reach Gangaad, a hamlet with few inhabitants. Green vegetation, wild orchids, and majestic views of the impressive peaks would highlight, and at the same time, soothe this arduous trek. Overnight stay at Puani Garaat.

Day 3: Puani Garaat (8,280 ft.) to Kalkatiyadhaar (8,956 ft. appx); 8 Km, 6 hours

The day begins with a short trek along the river that takes you to Osla, a small village about 8,500 ft. above sea level; this village has a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The architecture of this temple is a miracle in itself. You may spend some time here and explore the village before moving on. There is one STD also in Osla but phone connectivity depends entirely on the weather. As you begin your trek from Osla, you would find steep terrain as well as level grounds. You’d have crossed two streams, with the second one having a wooden bridge for trekkers to walk over it. Subsequently, as you proceed ahead of a mountain bend, a series of grasslands would follow. Some of these have been used for cultivation at some point in time. With the incline increasing gradually, you would find several huge boulders and tracts of grass. After crossing two more meadows, just below the valley over Supin, you’ll find a wooden bridge that leads you to the grasslands of Dev Thach, Bali Pass, and Ruinsara River. Walking past the wheat fields, you move to the inhabited areas as your trail ascends over the confluence of Ruinsara and Supin. From this vantage point, you will see the majestic views of Black Peak and Bandarpoonch. By the evening, you would reach your campsite Kalkatiyadhaar which takes about 6 hours.

Day 4: Kalkatiyadhaar (8,956 ft.) to Har-Ki-dun (11,768 ft.) and back to Kalkatiyadhaar; 10 Km, 8-9 hours

The trek from Kalkatiyadhaar to Har-ki-Dun is 5 Km where you’d gain an elevation of 2,812 ft. On your right, you come across the pastures of Dev Thach, just where the two rivers meet. From this point, the valley bifurcates into two, with Har-Ki-Dun on the left and Ruinsara Taal, Bali Pass on the right. On your way, you could now have a glance at the peak of Har-Ki-Dun and Hata Peak. The grasslands and pine forests would give way to a small waterfall, and from here, a steep climbing for minutes would lead you to level land, with patches of snow becoming more and more prominent all along your path. Some more climbing would take you to a forest stretch with a gradual incline. Once you reach Har-Ki-Dun after crossing a wooden bridge, you’d see the valley divided into two by a rivulet. The valley towards your left is going to Maninda Taal and Borasu Pass and the other; is to Jaundar Glacier. This would include the proximate views of Swargarohini peaks and Jaundar Glacier. After spending some time at Har Ki Dun, we will return to Kalkatiyadhaar camp.

Day 5: Kalkatiyadhaar (8,956 ft.) to Puani Garaat (8,280 ft.); 8 Km, 5 hours

Trekking back to the village Puani Garaat would pass through Osla, this downhill trek would involve descending about 3,500 ft. in 5 hours. Wake up comfortably as the day is easy and start your 8 km of the trek after having breakfast. The mesmerizing beauty of the Himalayas would always be encouraging and you would find several vantage points to capture the eternal charm of the snow-clad peaks. Camp at Puani Garaat.

Day 6: Puani Garaat (8,280 ft.) to Taluka (7,953 ft.); drive to Sankri from Taluka; 10 Km, 5 hours

Today you will be heading towards Taluka from where it all started approximately 10 km long trail counting about 5 hours. The trail is all the way along the river. Follow a path that would be interspersed with forests and bridges. The way back to Taluka is easy with consistent descents. After reaching Taluka then drive to Sankri, and get settled in for an overnight stay in a guest house/camp/homestay. Roam around this quiet village and learn some words of the local language, this is appreciated and often results in getting more out of the experience.

1. Daily oxygen saturation & pulse reading (if required in trek) We do treks which have a different environment than our daily life. We live in an environment where we less care about a healthy lifestyle. When it’s come to doing treks or surviving in a not-so-pure environment for more than a day our body should accept the changes. Oxygen saturation is the fraction of [oxygen]-saturated hemoglobin relative to total hemoglobin in the blood. So we ensure the specific balance of oxygen in your blood. Our team ensures the health condition by oxygen saturation and pulse reading before trekking so everyone should aware of their health.

2. Oxygen cylinders and medical kit When it comes to high-altitude trek the body doesn't get enough oxygen. It’s not always that you cannot survive in high-altitude treks but for a safer side if your body is not adjusted to the environment we are always ready with the oxygen cylinders. Our team member carries the portable oxygen cylinder and all the basic medicines on the trek.
To prevent high altitude conditions - do more exercise, cycle, and swim. The more you practice it’ll easier for you.

3. Stretchers on every campsite Although we are physically and mentally ready for the environment there are chances of accidents or uncertain things. In those situations, we have stretchers at every campsite so, in an emergency, the porter will safely drop you at base camp where we can do further treatment.

4. High-Quality Trek Gear and Equipment Trekkaro is the only trekking company in the world which is providing Free Trekking Gear (FTG) at no charge/rent only for use during the treks. Expensive FTG includes Decathlon Quechua Trek 100 Shoes, Quechua SH 100/300 Jackets, Hiking Pole/Stick, Gaiters, and Crampons. Now, before registering for the trek, there is no need to think about the expensive trekking gear, and also, do not need to buy or rent expensive trekking gear to go on a trek.

Trekkaro team will ensure you with quality tents and sleeping bags where you can survive in extreme cold. We provide sleeping bags that can hold cold up to -5 to -20 degrees Celsius. It’s always warmer in tents so we ensure you with quality shelter.
So even though we are ready for the storm you should tell us if anything bothers you regarding safety.

5. Radio (for communication between camps and guides) Our camps are a bit far from each other. But they connect through radio though the network is the issue in hills. Although you miss anything or the weather is not good or we need medical help from the base we can communicate through radios.

6. Technical team on all snowy slopes All the treks come up with an adventure. But safety is important in all trails and treks. Wherever we find risky slopes or areas we ensure the turn with the technical team. As we already mentioned earlier we have a well-trained team having knowledge of handling hustles in emergencies and even know how to take care of the trekkers.

When you take an adventurous trek with us, then be assured that whatever we do is more than your expectations. In fact, our wish to excel goes beyond the point where your boots hit the trail – it begins the moment that you get in contact with us, and it never ends. There is nothing more satisfying than hearing from our trekkers that they’ve just had “another trip of a lifetime with Trekkaro”.

Your Expectations

• Safety Of course, this is a non-negotiable. Safety is embedded in our business and it’s something that we take very seriously in all our treks. It's the primary reason we're very popular in just a year.

• Personalized Service, Care, and Attention to Detail For some organizations, this is, surprisingly, negotiable. But it isn’t for us. After safety, if we can do one thing right, every time, it’s to ensure that we sweat the small things.

• The Best Guides If you are already trekking with us, then you’d be forgiven for thinking our guides are superhuman. It doesn’t mean a feat to entertain, cook, guide, and facilitate, but our guides, handle it with grace, and all the while the attention is on you.

• The Best Itineraries It takes a lot of refinement to make a perfect trek, from dawn to dusk there are a lot of moving parts and the potential for things to go awry. For the last year, we’ve balanced on the tightrope of offering the right amount of activity, flexibility, and trek time. Whilst utilizing the best lodgings in the most unique places.

• Value We’re not in the business of making money and providing you with nothing. Our treks aren’t expensive, they represent excellent value for money, and for those seeking to maximize their time, there is no better way.

Our Expectations

It may come as a surprise, but the reality is that it is a two-way street (or trail), and you are ultimately responsible for the nature of the experience that you have with us. And not only that, but you also have an influence on the experience of others in your small group.

• Attitude This is your vacation, and the attitude that you bring will set the tone for your experience. We get that at times it’s difficult (we plan to challenge you) and we get that at times it’s a bit uncomfortable (this is not a cruise trip). All we ask you to keep an open mind, a big smile on your face, and readiness for the unexpected.

• Physical preparedness Our treks are designed for everyday people. You definitely don’t have to be an athlete, but to be fair to yourself and your group members, you do need to be ready. Worried about it? Do not stress it, our team is 100% dedicated to helping you pick the right trek, bring the right gear, and be physically and mentally prepared.

• Know who’s in charge As we’ve mentioned, you rightly expect when you join our trek to be in good, safe hands. For us to ensure the entire group’s safety, we suppose you, as our guest, to listen to your lead guide. They are the expert when it comes to decisions made on the trek.

Day 7: Drive to Dehradun from Sankri

Expectations

Safety

Trekkaro team will specifically ensure your safety with...
